Greenfield to miss at least four weeks

09 Apr 2008

Rabbitohs prop Michael Greenfield will miss at least the next four matches due to an ankle injury.

The in-form front rower suffered the injury in last Sunday’s round four NRL clash against Manly at Brookvale Oval. Rabbitohs Director of Athletic Performance Errol Alcott said scans on the injury have shown Greenfield had suffered ligament damage, but his left ankle will not require surgery which would have ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

“Greeny visited a lower limb specialist today and I’m happy to report that he does not require surgery,” Alcott said.

“The specialist was happy that his left ankle is stable and Greeny will be put into an intense rehabilitation program. He could return in as early as four weeks but it is more likely to be six to eight weeks.”

Greenfield is no longer on crutches but the ankle is still being kept in a protective boot.

“Things could have been a lot worse,” Alcott said.

“If he needed surgery it would have been the end of the season for him but as it is it is a great bonus for us.”

Massive blow.

Doesn't look like such a wise move to let Cusack go for 2008 now!! :crying:

I agree. Greenfield has been playing out of his skin. In reality I cant believe we let Yak go anyway. Maybe a bit of over confidence on our part.

Funny, how we're really noticing the impact of the loss of some people (Yak, Mellor, Rigon)...

Yeah I guess Souths management didn't think that Geddes would be injured either
