What is happening at South Sydney, the so-called Pride of the League? It was said yesterday that they're trying to shave the budget so closely that they inquired about not having an ambulance on standby at the match against Melbourne at Bluetongue Stadium in Gosford on Saturday night. The mail about Russell Crowe and Peter Holmes a Court not getting on has been around for months, and all concerned knew the excrement was going to hit the fan as soon as Crowe arrived back from shooting a film in the US. Holmes a Court went to ground yesterday, missing an interview he'd arranged with ABC Radio. Crowe's mouthpiece Grant Van Den Burg did nothing to disperse rumours that Crowe is fed up with Holmes a Court's apparent grandstanding when he told us this: "Peter does all the talking for the club." Good to see someone is. Issac Luke was about to speak to 2GB after the match but abruptly cut it short when he was hooked by team officials. "Gotta go, bra," he said before taking off.
