"RABBITOHS CHARITY.
Souths' millionaire owners Russell Crowe and Peter Holmes a Court continue to tighten the belt at the Bunnies. In their latest cost-cutting measure, they have asked several support staff to work for nothing this season. Most have agreed to the pay cuts, but we can't help thinking what Rusty would say if he was asked to shoot his next movie for nothing."
2GB's Chris Smith might find himself out of pocket. He receives just under $10,000 a season to MC the Legend's Lounge and to plug the club on his radio program. Bob McCarthy might be out of pocket the $1,000 a month he charges to host the Legend's Lounge.
Bets are being taken as to whether Mario Fenech, the highest paid of the trio, sticks around if he's asked to spruik the club for nothing.

I'd be glad to see the back of Chris Smith. His style of right wing rabble rousing talk back is despicable.
There are other radio personalities who have given service to this club for nothing more than a season family pass - I'm thinking particularly of a gentleman who used to be our ground announcer who then went on to call the Monday night footy.......
Macca might be short of a rep selector's gig as well if he keeps insisting on picking back rowers as props.... a definite factor in losing the SOO and World Cup.

I've got no time for Chris Smith, but I don't begrudge Bob McCarthy getting whatever he can.

Big Jezza is the ground anouncer at home games, he also backs up as the media manager at souths. It used to be two jobs . Jimmy Smith used to do the ground announcing
But Crowe and Haq don't want to pay the bills, he told first the drum squad to take a pay cut which they dully did, then scrapped them alltogether we were told they would be making cameo appearances in some big games, never happened.
Jezza is crap anyway.
Staff who weren't helping out volutarily ran the risk of loosing their job, entirley hence better a pay cut then no job at all given these economic hard times of today.
What does Champion and Martina think of the club and Haq now?

Last year we had to bludge a slurpee machine because Russell and Peter wouldn't buy or rent one. We were ridiculed for it on radio. They cancelled buses to Blue Tongue Stadium and there was also an argument about paying the cost of an ambulance.

When we lost $4.2 million for season 2007, Holmes a Court had to put it in earlier this year. He then had to sell his home and several other properties.
In May 2008, when Holmes a Court was sacked, he said that he wouldn't be putting in any more of his money. At that time Russell weighed in an emergency $1 million to keep the club going.
For season 2008 we've lost $5.2 million. Russell had to put this in. That's why he did the video to members warning that he's not putting in any more.
According to The Pie Eater, the best we can hope for in season 2009 is "breaking even". This seems unlikely, given the current trend.
So what happens in the likely event that we have another multi-million dollar loss? Our owners have already stated that they won't be putting any more in.

Answer : Crowe makes $25 million a film gross x 3 - 4 films a year - less tax
The other bloke also is not exactly on the bread line either
Fact: Both can, but neither want to....Next!

But is the money a gift or a loan?
When PHaC and Russell bought the club for $3.2 million, Holmes a Court described the money as a "gift". He's since said that he then "loaned" the football club another $2.5 million for infrastructure.
So does that mean that the football club, including the Member Company, owe Russell and Peter all the money they've put in?
Holmes a Court put in $2.5 million and then $4.2 million = $6.7 million.
Russell put in $1 million and then $5.2 million = $6.2 million.
This probably means that the South Sydney Football Club owes them $12.9 million on top of the mortgage that it has with the Bank of Western Australia for the purchase of the Chalmers Street building. And then there's the money to be put in for the redevelopment of it. Those costs will be in season 2009.
I hope I'm entirely wrong, but the figures are troubling.

Over at Manly. Max Delmeage put in $6million on his own to stop it from going under,
Since then he has been the major jersey sponsor each and every year. He has put more money on his own than the those two combined...does he expect it paid back? No!
Would he do it again? My word he would.
Nick Politis has been proping up the Roosters since the Mid 70s. Does he want it back ? no . Does he own the club per se Crowe and Hac. No!
Would he keep puting money in in order to save the Roosters? since the mid 70s he hasn't shown signs of ever pulling out of a labour of love. A hobby a passion of his?
Rupert Murdoch has been putting into a melbourne side that continually looses his money. Will he keep doing it? He hasn't shown any signs of pulling out.
All three men on their own put their hands in their pockets without batting an eye lid, no fan fare, no newspaper ranting, no members video linking flagging a warning to the members
Their Reward? it is no coincedence all three men have been rewarded for the benevelonce, a labour of love with at least one premiership flag. They do it because if they didn't no one else would . They do it because it is the only reason their team still plays in the NRL
Circa Hac and Crowe, two years into a privatisation both bleating over the money they have to keep putting in. But when you have your first millions and your looking to make your tenth and 11th millions why put more of your own money when it's easier to approach sponsors and  to put more of their own money instead of their own
Funny I recall an interview around the fight for privatisation time.
Crowe was asked was he in it for the long haul or was it just a play thing?
his response " If I get it , just try taking it off me "
That was then this is now.
Where are the caravan trailers supplying the players organic lunch during training sessions, russ was concerned with ? GONE!
where is more of those framed souths jerseys given to each and every Souths players as gifts by crowe to make them feel that extra special playing for Souths? That was three years ago . Now? part of the cost cutting belt tightening no more.
Where are the silver nugget rabbits with each of the 20 premiership years enscribed on each nuggets, given to the top twenty players in the squad. When asked to produce them, each player had to give a five minute talk about that year etched on the silver rabbit gone.
We don't hear anymore of those stories.
The great Max Delmaege was heard saying. " That he doesn't expect to make a profit, for his investment in Manly, his contribution and that of co owner scott Penn is to minimise the amount of money each has to contribute each year in order to pay the bills and balance the sheets. at Best the aim is they break even."
Only at Souths we asks members , sponsors and :confused:to put in the money that our two show pony's owners are reluctant to do.
If the case is that they don't want to put their money in ongoing, then why did they bother to buy it in the first place?
Ps I agree with your only point. The leagues club is broke for redevelopment so what do you do when your souths you asked  to stump up the dosh. By the way , speaking of the Leagues club, where's marty? here's to you Maximus :pepsi:

Crowe's video message put me off big time. This cost cutting and penny pinching while he keeps hopeless executives and asks supporters to cough up is just an insult. You bought the club Crowe, you wanted to buy it, and now you want us to pay for your mistakes. Get fucked.
Crowe when when will you be cleaning up the front of the LC, it is a disgrace was there today, it has been like it for months. So much for you caring for the community you are full of it. If I had your cash I would not be crying poor when it came to Souths. Charity begins at your home first and the rest can go jump.:trinity:

"Bets are being taken as to whether Mario Fenech, the highest paid of the trio, sticks around if he's asked to spruik the club for nothing."
I'd say it's odds on given his past form.
Let's do another South Side Story 12 months on. :paper:
Chapter 7 - The Future
With all the fanfare gone, and the honeymoon over. In Chap 7 we highlight how HaQ publicly states how he cannot guarantee Souths Future and the subsequent loss of Luke Lewis signature after he changes his mind about coming to Souths. 6mths later a video message from rusty coil stating that he he will not put the money and it's up to the members to keep their club alive
Chapter 8 Slumdog Ghetto
An eye sore for the past two years, It's boarded up, black plastic welder sheets flow through the breeze when stray dogs aren't using it to take a leak the plastic black sheets try and cover the smashed glass doors. Here we will go into the closure of the Leagues Club for 2 years after all the promises is South Side Story Part I....Haq told us " a PACK of nuts this high costs 9 dollars at a convience store" We will interview LC director Marty on the future of the leagues club, and when will it open if he gets permission from Jungle Jimmy to answer our questions. That Marty is if we can catch marty he's pretty hard to get a response from.
Chapter 9 - Progress
After making the 8 for the first time in 18 yrs. Souths come third last 12 months later...Progress...we talk to Rusty about the progress made. Since the last South Side story went to air
Chapter 10 - " I love you" the next installment - Wingy
In South Side Story, Russ showed a deep passion for his players. " I love you Dean Widders because through your actions you touch me greatley." Dean Widders is punted but we showed how Craig wing was the prize signing at Souths heralding in the change. A 4 year deal , announced at a press conference along with the new show pony owners. It's Year 2 on of that four year agreement. We will ask Craig about the 100gees third party sponsorship owing and if he is happy at the prospects of playing hooker or lock in the future. He was brought to the club as halfback.
Chapter 11 - The Recession we had to have
With Global financial markets going into meltdown, over at chalmers street, Souths endure belt tightening of their own, in this chapter we look at the Drum squad - gone, the Catering Trailers with the organic food for players at training, that's gone also, staff doubling on jobs and being asked to volunteer instead of being payed. The red carpet premier openings, no more, the media circus winning and dining,- that was a one off. And the G'day Australia , Florida experiment which was to be a yearly pilmerage. It's time to trim off the fat and you will find out why
Chapter 12 - Chill Pill.
In our final installment of Part 2 South Side Story, we uncover, the pear shape deal called Fire power.
Why Is Issac Luke wanted a get out clause in his contract and why he signed with the roosters after having a two year deal to stay at the rabbitohs.

Stewie - that's very clever and witty. David Allrich of Beyond Productions should sign you up immediately to write the sequel.
